We're officially back into the swing of things here at the studio! One of the things I'm most excited about is our community service team. We've begun our rehearsals for our first two performances, scheduled for November 21 and December 12. We will be performing Nutcracker variations as we prepare to usher in winter and the holiday season! This year, we have close to 20 students who have joined our community service team. They are excited to perform for all of you! Keep an eye out for our team - we may be performing at an event near you!
Join us from July 13 - July 17 for our Princess Dance Program! This is open to all children ages 3-6 and will run from 9:30am-12:30pm. Students should wear a leotard, tights, and ballet slippers and should bring water and a snack (no nuts, please!) Students will begin each day with creative movement/pre-dance, followed by princess-inspired arts and crafts, movies, and snack time. On the last day of the program, students are invited to wear their fanciest princess costume!
Our second dance program will be Dance Me A Story, held from August 3 - August 7, 9:30am-1pm. This program is open to all children ages 3-7. Students should wear a leotard, tights, and ballet slippers. They should also bring water and a snack (no nuts, please!) In this program, students will learn what it's like to create a full dance performance. They will be involved in creating a story, characters, costumes, and scenery/props. Each day will begin with creative movement/pre-dance and then students will work on these performance elements. On the final day of the program, the students will perform their final masterpiece! Family and friends are invited to attend.
Our next 6-week session of Mommy (or Daddy) and Me dance classes is right around the corner! Classes will be held on Mondays from 10:30-11:15 and Saturdays from 11:30-12:15. Classes will begin on Monday, March 30 and Saturday, April 4.
Mommy (or Daddy) and Me classes are a great way to introduce your child to music and movement. In class, we work on rhythm and counting to the music, body awareness ("Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes", anyone?), gross motor skills, listening, and FUN! We utilize a number of props, including instruments, hula hoops, bubbles, and a parachute. Come try it out some time!
I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who participated in our Nutcracker variations over the past 2 months! We were lucky enough to perform at the East Weymouth Congregational Church's Christmas fair in November, Harbor House nursing home in December, and Little Christmas in Jackson Square over this past weekend. We've had some busy dancers! I cannot begin to express how proud I am of all their hard work and dedication.
The community service team will perform throughout the year, so stay tuned for more performance opportunities! Thanks again for all of your support - looking forward to what 2015 brings!
Hi! My name is Jayme Caruso. I am a licensed Zumba® Fitness Instructor at South Shore Dance Academy in Weymouth. If you have never taken a Zumba® class before, don't sweat it! Just have fun with it! Zumba® is an aerobic Latin-based fitness program, perfect for anyone wanting or trying to lose weight, burning anywhere from 800-1000 calories in just one hour! Zumba® is so much fun, you forget that it is in fact a workout. Zumba® isn't about knowing and learning all of the moves, as long as you keep moving, sweating & smiling is all that counts. In class you can expect loud music to keep you going & take note of visual cues. It is important to wear comfortable sneakers and clothes that you can move comfortably in. Also, Zumba® is very repetitive, if you don't get it the first or second time, you will the third! If you don't understand something, please don't hesitate to say so! I'm always willing to stay & break down a couple of steps for you. I hope to see you all on Monday nights from 7:30-8:30!
I'd like to take a minute to share something with you that I am particularly passionate about - our community service dance team. I think it is important to give back to your community and what better way than through dance? Last year, students of South Shore Dance Academy performed at a number of community events, including: Nutcracker variations at a holiday fair and at a nursing home, performing at Columbian Square, volunteering at a library, and helping with a Halloween 5k. This year, I'd like to give back even more!
It is free to join our community service dance team - there is no tuition or costume fee. All I ask is for your time and energy. If you would like more information about the community service dance team, please do not hesitate to contact me. We will have our first "rehearsal"/meeting on Friday, October 10th from 6:30-7:45. This team is open to all dancers, even those who are not SSDA students. Please spread the word and let's all give back through dance.
